As the Senior Facilities Planner / Environmental Sustainability Administrator, you will lead, manage and coordinate the development and implementation of JPL’s Sustainability Program in compliance with NASA requirements. Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis on utility, mechanical, cafeterias, R&D facilities, electric vehicle/photovoltaic systems, ride share programs and refuse waste applications related to improving environmental opportunities.
  • Collection and validation of information and data from multiple sources in relation to sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure we uphold and work towards finding new, innovative and economically reductive ways to minimize JPL’s impact on the environment.
  • Analyze data to determine strategies and reporting sustainability measures to peers, management and NASA HQ.
  • Develop, implement and monitor JPL’s organizational sustainability strategies.
  • Communicate your plans, formulate budgets and market these strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for identifying energy conservation opportunities in conjunction with JPL’s Energy Manager.
  • Analyze Facilities Condition Assessment program, Deferred Maintenance studies, and support numerous miscellaneous audits the need arises.
  • Perform design reviews and plan checks for new construction and reconstruction projects related to sustainability opportunity improvements.
  • Participate in annual utility forecasting and energy conservation project development.
  • Participate on team assignments with other NASA Centers and engineers to review, update, and develop facilities procedures, guidelines, standards and practices.
  • Leader Sustainability & Energy Management working groups and the participation of Energy Budgets and Forecasting models.

Job Requirements:

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field with a minimum of 9 years of related experience. Master’s degree with 7 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years of experience. Knowledge in Energy Conservation, Sustainability Measures.
  • A strong background with the principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Green Environmental compliance, LEED, Energy Star
  • Understanding of technical developments in environmental sustainability, with specific emphasis on environmental management methods.
  • Experience in updating and developing facilities procedures and guidelines related to green initiatives and conservation measures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and documentation skills;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with project teams in a multifaceted and fast paced; technical environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office/Project programs and general PC applications.
  • Knowledge of various regulatory agency requirements related to green initiatives.
  • Experience with Energy field analysis and sustainability measures and implementations.
  • Strong experience with an emphasis in building; retro-commissioning; Energy Star Rating and LEED initiatives. LEED and CEM Certified.
  • Facilities Maintenance and Operations experience and awareness of new and emerging technologies.
  • The ability to read and comprehend architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and control drawings.
