Job Description:
As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you will be a patient safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. You will facilitate change through interpretation and application of standards, and provide best practice recommendations across the spectrum of the organization with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and preventing health-care associated infections (HAI).
Job Requirements:
- The minimum educational requirement is a Baccalaureate degree in nursing, microbiology, epidemiology or public health. Other clinical health-related baccalaureate or graduate degrees may be considered if curriculum content equivalency can be adequately demonstrated. Minimum three years’ experience in a clinical health care setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: 1) patient care practice, 2) microbiology and infectious diseases; or 3) epidemiology and biostatistics. The ICP must be licensed with a governing body if applicable (CARNA, MLT, etc.)
- Completion of an IPAC Canada endorsed novice ICP program. Expertise in microbiology, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of medical devices, construction and renovation in health care facilities. Understanding of adult education principles, strong computer skills, excellent communication skills, and ability to function both independently, and within a team are necessary. ICPs often deal with issues of sensitivity. Political acumen and discretion are essential.
