Job Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance, designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and functions as an integral member of the health care team. You will engage individuals, groups and communities in order to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. Interventions support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to the client¿s cognitive, affective, spiritual and physical strengths and limitations. The OT provides comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The OT collaborates with client(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Job Requirements:

  • Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy and BCLS-HCP are required. Excellent computer, interpersonal, and communication skills is required. Strong assessment, conflict resolution and time management skills is required. Proven ability to provide exceptional clinical care within a continually changing healthcare environment. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include single family dwellings, condominiums, and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carrying medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.
  • Familiarity with RAI, Meditech, and case management principles is preferred. AADL Authorizer is an asset. Community experience is an asset.
