Job Description:

As the Director of Emerging Technologies, you will play a critical role in identifying and delivering new technologies to benefit Air Canada’s many business functions. The successful candidate will provide thought leadership within the technology innovation space. This is a highly visible role where you will be collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure that benefits tracking is in place to confirm that the proposed business value was delivered
• Investigate the use of emerging technologies and demonstrate the impact on business strategy by delivering innovation outcomes through rapid project execution demonstrating feasibility of achieving key business strategic goals.
• Represent Air Canada at workshops and industry events as a speaker while enthusiastically representing our brand and mission.
• Evangelize innovation throughout the organization.
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and leverage cross-functional teams to identify new opportunities to evaluate, build, test, and iterate capabilities with innovative technology.
• Facilitate the progression of innovation efforts from proof of value into broad scale deployment.
• Incorporate and balance cyber security principles and risks
• Develop an innovation framework to track and report on related activities.
• Lead and grow the emerging technologies team via direct reports and as a virtual team.
• Manage the innovation demand intake process.
• Validate the value received from innovation efforts vs what was expected.
• Connect technologies to business problems and present solutions in a way that both technical and non-technical stakeholders understand.
• Manage technology vendor relationships with companies that provide services, equipment, and resources.
• Identify, develop, influence the implementation and operationalization of emerging technologies that will enhance customer experience, deliver operational efficiencies, and enable next generation product offerings.
• Build and present business cases to demonstrate the value of technology adoption.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to influence others as part of a larger organization
• At least 10 years of experience in designing, building, and operating technology platforms
• A strong background in solution design and architecture
• Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
• Must have experience in managing and working with distributed team members.
• Airline/Aviation or logistics experience is an asset.
• Ability to travel both Domestically and Internationally for conferences and partner meetings.
• Prior experience developing or working with Cloud-based technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Must be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication.
• Experience working in a large enterprise
• Strong analytical skills and experience with implementation and administration of technology projects
• Bachelor’s Degree/ Master’s Degree preferred
• Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills.
• Experience in delivering projects through third party engagements.
