Reporting to the Addiction and Mental Health manager lead for the North Zone Opioid Dependency Program (ODP), the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a member of an interdisciplinary health and treatment team supporting the service. The position provides opioid use disorder treatment and medical support. Assessment, medication recommendations and prescribing, and collaborations with allied professionals will be a critical function of this position. The NP will provide leadership and support to any medication support for clients through the ODP clinics, including the outreach services component of the team, in collaboration with the clinical supervisor, managers, physicians and clinical medical director of ODP. The NP will liaise with various agencies, community services providers including physicians and other NPs, and various pharmacies. The Nurse Practitioner position is a registered nurse with advanced knowledge and skill in health assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and health management decision-making at the individual, family and community client levels. The NP has developed advanced competencies in the areas of health promotion, injury and illness prevention, family health, community development and planning, health assessment and diagnosis, health care management and role responsibility.

Job Requirements:

  • Education requirements: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent qualifications or approval. Eligible for licensure with CARNA as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Family/All Ages Stream. Qualifications: Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures; and follow-up care in the community considered an asset. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Must understand and practice within full scope of their practice in an interdisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short and long term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results.
  • CPR (Basic Rescuer). Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.
  • Experience in addiction and mental health. Experience in opioid agonist therapy.
