Bank of England Internship – Insurance Risk Specialists

Job Description:

This is both a technical and people management role. The jobholder will be a thought leader within the General Insurance sector: able to proactively identify issues and innovative solutions; communicate key regulatory messages to internal and external stakeholders; and, influence the development of PRA policy and supervision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in horizon scanning and emerging risk analysis, and work through specialists to synthesise and prioritise issues that could cause risks to the PRA’s objectives.
  • You will provide thought leadership on general insurance risk issues, formulate the strategy for the division and oversee its execution.
  • Ensure the output of the division is of high quality and is adding value to the division’s key stakeholders. This includes reviewing papers, ensuring appropriate quality assurance is being applied to the analysis and providing steer to the staff on how to tailor their output to most effectively meet the PRA’s objectives.
  • Represent the PRA by delivering effective communication across industry including trade associations and giving speeches, participating in panel events and conferences.
  • Work with colleagues to develop, deliver and embed the PRA’s supervisory approach in respect of risk specialist support to supervisors and policy functions.
  • Leading Insurance Directorate as a member of its senior management team, including deputising for the Executive Directors on occasion, and working collaboratively with other members of the PRA and Bank Senior Leadership Teams.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of leading large teams; including the ability to create and implement a shared vision and delivery of outcomes.
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in risk management in at least one of the general insurance risk areas covered by the division.
  • Effective communication and influencing capability, including capability to act as an ambassador for the Bank externally.
  • Flexible, with experience in promoting and delivering change.
  • Ability to think strategically, using judgement and prioritising effectively.
  • Extensive experience in working with and influencing senior management.
  • Excellent relationship management and strong collaboration skills with a track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive financial services experience, either in a regulator or central bank, or working for one or more financial firms.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience of working in, or with, Insurance Directorate’s key stakeholders.
