Job Description:

Duties include responding to complaints reported by the public – capturing stray or loose animals, removing dead animals and investigating biting incidents; issuing warnings and citations for animal control ordinance violations; caring for captured animals; cleaning animal shelter facilities and vehicles; euthanizing animals; and testifying in court when required. Duties also include answering and dispatching calls, participating in a dispatch duty rotation. A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in animal control or a related field are required. Must have basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office products; and have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, a valid Class C Texas driver’s license, and Animal Control Officer, euthanasia and chemical immobilization certifications. Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Schedule will include some weekend and evening hours, including participation in the on-call rotation; must be available for callback in emergency situations and be able to adhere to a maximum one hour emergency response time. Irving Animal Services is a division of the Irving Police Department, and it maintains a safe and secure city by providing a healthy environment for humans and animals living in Irving.
In 2010, the City of Irving constructed a 26,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Animal Care Campus that includes cat condos with window views, a dog park and spacious kennels. The campus is shared with DFW Humane Society.
