Job Description:
The Electrician Assistant I/II/III is responsible to perform a variety of duties in support of the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment; to set up traffic controls; and to mark utilities in response to Underground Service Alerts.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist in electrical maintenance and repair work involving municipal facilities, utilities systems, buildings, street lights, signals and lighting systems.
Assist in the repair and replacement of defective or worn electrical parts in motors, generators, pumps, controllers, switches, pneumatic systems, boilers and other facilities and equipment.
Assist in inspecting newly installed electrical equipment and lighting to ensure safe and satisfactory functioning.
Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals and street lighting, including underground and overhead lines, poles, and control circuits.
Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of control systems, motors, generators, pumps, traffic signal controllers, telemetering systems and other electromechanical and electronic equipment, electrical and lighting equipment, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems, intercommunication and computer systems, in the City’s buildings, parks, sewage disposal plant and pumping stations.
Learn to test, locate and repair damaged electrical circuitry.
Participate in the design of electrical systems as necessary.
Job Requirements:
No experience is necessary.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Possession of an appropriate, valid Class A or Class B Commercial California Driver’s license with appropriate endorsements, as assigned, within 60 days of appointment. Failure to obtain the required license may result in release from probation.
Learn to perform work in the trades area of electrical and electronic maintenance and repair.
Learn to understand and interpret written and oral instructions, including blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Learn to use and care for tools and equipment used in maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic devices.
Perform mathematical computations as required in electrical and electronic circuits.
Assist others in municipal electrical and electronic maintenance repair.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
