Job Description:

The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting staff to work with Camp Clarita in summer 2025. Camp Clarita is a summer day camp program from June 13 – August 5, 2025 that serves children ages 3-15 at multiple locations, where they will participate in various activities including swimming, field trips, games, crafts, and more. The program has been modified for summer 2025 to follow the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines related to COVID-19.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in supervising and leading children; maintains staff/child ratio
  • Other duties, as directed by Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Camp Director
  • Performs first aid and responds to emergencies; reports incidents and accidents
  • Follows and enforces City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others
  • Adheres to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines set forth
  • Attends meetings and training sessions
  • Maintains various forms, logs, and reports
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on assignments
  • Cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces and materials throughout the program
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with participants as they arise
  • Swims with campers on a daily basis
  • Assists in organization, set-up, and clean-up of facility
  • Greets customers and participants and answers inquiries regarding programs

Job Requirements:

  • Six months paid or volunteer experience in planning and leading activities for youth in a recreation, education, youth program, sport program, or other relatable setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Completion of college courses is highly desirable
  • Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and be a creative problem solver
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather
  • Ability to act as a role model by displaying positive and courteous behaviors that campers will
  • Senior in high school by fall 2025 and ability to obtain a valid work permit
  • Completion of college courses is highly desirable
  • Ability to maintain awareness of campers needs
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, for self and others
  • Six months of paid experience in planning and leading activities for youth in a recreation, education, youth program, sport program, or other relatable setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
  • Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by June 10, 2025, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification. A Red Cross CPR/AED/FA course will be offered during Staff Training. Staff may elect to participate in this training (unpaid) at a cost of $21 for the certification.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent by June 2025
  • Strong work ethic, proactive, and the ability to learn quickly
