Job Description:

You will confidently engage with senior colleagues in Communications, Policy Planning, and Policy Teams. You will be well organized and clear thinking, able to grasp complex issues, see the big picture, have good news sense, and make the complicated understandable.
Working closely with the Senior Communications Planner, you will lead on the production of the weekly grids and daily updates, working closely with Comms, Strategy, Policy, No10 and Special Advisors. You will work with colleagues to ensure that we plan efficiently how to demonstrate opportunities and mitigate risks, in support of the BEIS and HMG narrative.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as a central point of contact at BEIS for the No10 Grid team;
  • Chairing weekly internal grid meetings for the communications directorate and SpAds;
  • Processing and providing feedback on grid slot requests;
  • Work closely with the media SpAd, demonstrating a high degree of political awareness, to agree on a cohesive grid of announcements on a weekly long term basis;
  • Ensure the grid is constantly up-to-date, so that it can be used to inform Ministers, media monitoring, and other internal meetings;
  • Horizon scan to ensure BEIS is prepared to respond to, or able to proactively contribute to, all external events relevant to priority policies;
  • Co-ordinating information for a number of cross-Government grids, to make sure they have an accurate forward look of BEIS announcements;
  • Act as a champion for the BEIS grid both internally and across Whitehall.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven record as a strong self-starter, able to work autonomously and drive the agenda of a team;
  • Evidence of commitment to innovation and constantly looking to change and innovate;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Experience in building relationships and creating effective networks – strong interpersonal skills are essential;
  • Evidence of thriving in a fast-paced, complex organisation;
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
