Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the CMA and develop your career within the Mergers team. You will use your substantive, administrative, analytical and organisational skills to contribute to the timely delivery and project management of merger cases.
The Mergers team at the CMA investigates cases which may affect competition in the UK. Our purpose is to ensure that sufficient competition remains in the markets concerned so that they continue to work well for UK consumers. Our collaborative team of Case Officers play a vital investigatory and supporting role working in several merger cases and the Mergers intelligence unit.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting Mergers case teams in phase 1 and phase 2 during complex (often multi-jurisdictional) merger investigations, for example by:
- analysing and summarising evidence (such as the merging parties’ internal documents and submissions by the merging parties and third parties) to contribute to the team’s understanding of the issues;
- conducting case precedent and/or legal research and preparing summaries of the key findings;
- contributing to case team discussions in writing or orally to help identify possible competition concerns with the merger;
- contributing to the CMA’s decision making by drafting sections of internal recommendations to decision makers and published decisions, under the supervision of the Principal Case Officer; and
- identifying risks and escalating these as appropriate.
- Ensuring the CMA’s decisional precedent database and the CMA’s case web pages are continuously monitored and updated.
- Ensuring the efficiency and continuing improvement of the internal case management system.
