Disputes Solicitor
£41,440 – £51,800 plus benefits (Grade D17)
Manchester city centre, with flexibility to split your time between home and office working

We’re looking for a disputes lawyer to join our in-house legal team. You’ll help support our business by giving advice and using your judgement to allow us to manage disputes and reduce uncertainty. Our Co-op is complex and diverse, and this role offers you the chance to apply yourself across a broad range of situations in a varied and ever-changing environment.

As a member of the legal team, you’ll be working collaboratively with your colleagues to deliver a service that’s reflective of our excellent reputation. You’ll be part of a small sub-team of experienced disputes lawyers and will get involved in a range of work across various business areas, including our Food, Funeralcare and Property divisions.

It’ll be up to you to play your part in supporting the commercial and ethical strategy of the business and managing its risks. You’ll make use of your people skills and legal knowledge across a broad range of business situations to get the right results.

Job Responsibilities:

manage a variety of queries from Co-op’s business units, becoming a trusted partner and building strong relationships along the way
* tackle your own caseload of disputes, many of which will be at the pre-action stage although some will progress to litigation. Make use of appropriate support where needed
* manage some portfolio property litigation matters.
* engage and manage outside counsel, when necessary
* research and develop new areas of expertise to influence business outcomes and minimise risk
* work collaboratively and flexibly with other members of the legal team to deliver a seamless service, share knowledge and encourage colleagues to grow
