Job Description: The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. This position is responsible for the operational support of complex data and voice network solutions. This position requires a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and a general understanding of VOIP, wireless and firewall technologies. Network automation with programming and scripting are additional skills that are highly valued. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who exceeds with little supervision and works with small teams using Agile engineering principles. Job Responsibilities: Provide timely resolution to trouble tickets Troubleshoot LAN, WAN and wireless network performance issues Collaborate across all tiers of operations organization Participates in on-call rotation duties Contributes to and participates in network improvement initiatives Perform troubleshooting and analysis of appliances such as firewalls and WAN accelerators Support internal data networks with focus on improving reliability Job Requirements: Demonstrates ability to work independently with some direct supervision or review. Proficient knowledge of the telecommunications systems, associated safety policies, practices, work procedures and regulatory requirements. Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university plus a minimum of two years of experience in Information Technology Applies defined telecom technologies to the business Ability to effectively prioritize activities and focus team efforts based-on priority. One year experience with Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating Systems and MS Office. Good written and oral communication skills. Experience with position specific technical Software and Hardware. Computer skills, including general usage and support. Ability to research independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines under tight timeframes. Cisco Certifications: CCNA, CCNP Effective interpersonal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations). Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization. Ability to work effectively in a work plan driven/team environment.
