Job Description:

This position supports the community efforts of Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation. It develops and directs the implementation of policies and programs designed to enhance the company’s reputation, engage employees and support the company’s corporate/regional, legislative and regulatory strategies. This is an external-facing position which requires representing the company at community gatherings/forums, and company sponsored events. 75% of this position’s time is spent on stakeholder engagement across the Carolinas for Duke Energy and 25% of the position’s time is spent on North Carolina philanthropy through the Duke Energy Foundation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the North Carolina and South Carolina Stakeholder Engagement directors in developing and implementing strategies to educate and engage with key stakeholders on a wide-range of company issues, build advocacy, and support the company’s long term strategy;
  • Building and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders and partnering to resolve business and emerging issues to amenable conclusions;
  • Helping manage relationships with strategic external stakeholders in jurisdictions served by Duke Energy;
  • Contributing to the enhancement of the company’s image, brand and reputation in local and regional communities through appropriate engagement and investment of corporate resources;
  • Leading Duke Energy Foundation grant cultivation and grantee relationships for regional and statewide nonprofit relationships;
  • Core engagement topics this position will support include regulatory and legislative initiatives; business priorities of Duke Energy NC/SC leadership; Duke Energy Foundation priorities and other community initiatives;
  • Building advocacy through membership and representation in local, regional and national organizations important to the company’s strategy;
  • Supporting the Stakeholder Engagement directors in the management of department business, including goal setting, strategic planning, budget management, process improvement and executive updates.
  • Representing the company and positioning appropriate representation, as needed, in public hearings, community events, environmental and energy hearings, advocacy and educational forums;

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to balance corporate governance with local business needs
  • Ability to effectively navigate internal and external relationships to achieve business objectives and maintain relationships
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated contract negotiation experience, reporting expertise, proficient in MS Office
  • Demonstrated communications skills
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree AND seven (7) years minimum of related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 years minimum related work experience
  • Experience with developing, implementing and monitoring strategy
  • Experience in building a trusted advisor relationship with senior management
  • Demonstrated financial and project management skills
  • In addition to required degree, seven (7) years minimum of related work experience
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees, management, customers, vendors and service providers in both business and social settings
  • Ability to work effectively with long distance management
  • Ability to work frequent nights and weekends
  • Experience with community involvement responsibilities
  • Demonstrated organization, planning and independent decision making and planning skills
