Job Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator position is a permanent full-time position where you will develop and implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program that reflect our vision to be the most inspiring public place in the world. In this role, you will build on a successful volunteer program and develop opportunities to expand the ways that volunteers can meaningfully contribute to Granville Island’s success.
This position will work in tandem with the Outdoor Public Spaces Coordinator to administer the Granville Island Busker Program and will have a Tuesday – Saturday schedule.
Job Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train and retain a roster of existing and new volunteers who contribute to enhancing the visitor experience on Granville Island.
- Train volunteers in a variety of roles to increase their knowledge of Granville Island.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements as necessary.
- Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization.
- Undertake recruitment and interview protocols for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organization.
- Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures which guide programs and services.
- Assist with conflict resolution among visitors, staff and volunteers according to established procedures.
- Administer and monitor expenditures for the volunteer program.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to motivate and interact with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to independently plan and manage one’s time to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork and organizational skills.
- Two to three years of experience in volunteer management, human resources, and/or event management.
- Proficiency with social media an asset.
- Fluency in English essential; other languages are an asset.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and present information.
- Ability and desire to be a team player.
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Fine Arts, or Human Resources.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft programs.
