This unique opportunity is part of the Mechanical Systems Engineering, Fabrication and Test Division which engages in research, technology development, and the creation of sophisticated mechanical, thermal, propulsion, and electronic packaging systems with expertise that spans the full breath of mechanical fields and is applied from architectural concept development through operations. These services are required to fabricate, assemble, and test electromechanical developmental and flight hardware using metal jointing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Train to operate electro-dynamic shakers, tuneable shock beams, and an acoustic reverberant chamber as a setup and operations technician.
  • Will learn about shaker, shock, and acoustic systems that simulate dynamic environments to certify hardware for launch.
  • Train to operate mass properties machines as a setup and operations technician. Will learn techniques and process for measuring the center of gravity and inertias of flight hardware.
  • Responsible for dynamics environments and mass properties test setup, working closely with hardware engineers, dynamics environments engineers, and quality assurance and following written detailed procedures to complete a successful test. Includes logging data, responding to last minute changes or augmentation to the test procedure, and working in a close environment with peers.
  • Ensure the process, product, and environment comply with Laboratory protocols, government regulations, and professional standards.
  • Maintain lab to meet JPL safety standards for chemical, soldering, and other safety processes and practices.

Job Requirements:

  • Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of related experience and training.
  • Must have general understanding and experience using basic hand tools including sockets, wrenches, taps, and dies, and knowledge of different types of fasteners used on machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and work from standard engineering drawings, schematics, and detailed procedures, and established processes.
  • Familiarity with desktop computers and MS Office programs to perform basic operations such as web searches in support of parts procurement and services, email, record keeping, and web based timekeeping systems.
  • Ability to log data in multiple types of media (e.g. MS Excel, MS Word, and paper)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a close group environment
  • Ability to work in a clean room environment with the appropriate gloves, hat, booties, and smock in support of flight hardware testing.
  • Required to be available to work day shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
