The key roles of the Assistant Accountant are Chart of Account maintenance and to supporting on the month-end close process, internal audit processes (including Sarbanes-Oxley framework) and external audit.

However the team does more than just focus on the numbers, and are responsible for ensuring that we’re appropriately challenging our business decisions, ensuring we have the right controls, ensure that we understand the accounting impact of large scale business transactions and then telling the story behind the numbers to the appropriate partners.

The remit is broad, touching on many different aspects of the business. This involves working closely with both Finance and non-Finance senior management, internal and external auditors to ensure our numbers are accurate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • CoA owner and maintenance
  • Preparation of month end analysis file
  • Analysis of multiple P&L lines
  • Supporting the team with month end close processes
  • Maintenance of corporate accruals balance sheet account
  • Preparation of monthly journals
  • Understand and advise on technical accounting (UK/ US GAAP) and reporting
  • Other internal/ corporate reporting
  • Perform internal and SOX controls and support on internal audit process
  • Supporting the FP&A team on the annual Plan and monthly projection processes
  • Supporting team with preparation of UK GAAP statutory reporting and external audit
  • Partnering with the business to understand certain areas of the income statement, and provide financial support to other teams, as required
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of global finance system projects in UK & Ireland
  • Drive Continuous Improvement

Job Requirements:

  • Partly ACA or ACCA qualified
  • 3+ years work experience
  • Strong, diligent, analytical skills – an ability to ask questions to breakdown problems, identify trends and creating action, solutions and change
  • Critical thinking – “connecting the dots” between our strategy and our numbers
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills – an ability to communicate to all levels of the organisation and tell the story behind the numbers
  • A master networker – an ability to work cross-functionally, building strong relationships and influence over partners
  • A genuine curiosity to understand the “why” and challenge the status quo
  • Ambitious and looking to learn, develop and growth within the organisation
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as a willingness to build knowledge of McDonald’s bespoke financial systems to become a proficient user
