The Science and Technology Office, Science Research and Projects Division, Astrophysics Branch is seeking a highly skilled individual to serve as a research scientist on the Relativistic Astrophysics Team with responsibility for initiating and performing independent original research in gamma-ray astronomy, with a focus on gamma-ray instrumentation. ** This vacancy has been amended to extend the closing date from 08/16/21 to 08/20/21. **

Job Requirements:

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. This research position has a full performance level at the GS-14 grade level. The scientific impact of the incumbent will be examined in addition to other factors, to determine if the person is eligible for promotion. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing research to advance technologies for gamma-ray detection systems; designing, calibrating, and testing instruments; leading and/or participating in proposals in response to scientific funding opportunities and communicating research results at meetings and in peer reviewed journals.
