Job Description:

This job entails conducting research to assure the safe adoption of autonomy in aerospace systems and operations. Emphasis will be on non-conventional assurance approaches conducive to self-directed adaptive behavior and adaptive software security measures to facilitate bringing intelligent systems into the commercial sector. This position will address requirements including adaptation and uncertainty; and edge case prediction, identification, and resolution, to assure system level safety.

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Vacant research positions may be filled at one of several grade levels depending upon the scientific impact of the person selected. A review may be required to determine the appropriate grade level of the position and supplemental materials may be required from the selectee. Please keep this in mind when indicating the lowest grade you will accept. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties associated with the development or assurance of complex or autonomous systems. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level serving a technical management and/or principal investigator role in the design, development, or assurance of complex or autonomous systems.
