Job Description:

Acts as consultant for the digital team and its various internal client departments to providing direction and technical support regarding user experience: web site design, layout, user interface, navigation and content decisions. Applies knowledge of web-related technologies and best practices to support the development, implementation, and efficient ongoing operation of all existing and new web-based information, applications, services and solutions for SoCalGas.
Assists with the maintenance and enhancement of the utilities’ Internet and Intranet web sites, including programming of web content, navigational and graphical elements. Oversees programming in HTML and other languages for existing and new web pages, uploads pages to web sites, and integrates multimedia assets into sites. Works with business clients, Web Business Technologists and IT resources to prioritize, plan, manage and provide status of web group tasks. Deploys web page content and graphics to assure work product will support client needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assesses user experience and interface of SoCalGas’ digital assets and develops design and functionality to optimize customer experience.
  • Creates functional Wireframes, clickable prototypes, design documentation, and other deliverables focusing on responsive web design and accessibility standards that help to meet our regulatory requirements for customer facing web pages. The position provides input for various business decisions regarding the web user experience. Works with legal and Information Security compliance. Has full ownership of web design deliverables.
  • Delivers customer-focused innovation throughout the entire lifecycle, including optimization and enhancement of existing features. Uses research, analytics, Call Center feedback, user testing, and various other tools/feedback to drive innovation.
  • Responds to client inquiries and urgent requests, including periodic on call support.
  • Oversees the maintenance of existing web pages, including updating of content, navigation, and graphics. Troubleshoots web site maintenance issues, including problems with web servers, IT-based apps, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
  • Provides web technical consultation to clients to enable them to leverage the web in their business processes, products, and services. Establishes, enforces and communicates content design and presentation for the company’s external web sites and common Intranet sites and enforces our web and digital standards, such as our Web and Accessibility Style Guides. Recommends strategies and supports efforts to create Web applications.
  • Develops new web pages with knowledge and experience in Oracle Web Center Sites and Drupal 8.0, including programming of content within these applications and other HTML/CSS related programming.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Internet/Intranet/web UX design, development, and implementation experience using HTML, PHP, Flash, Javascript, XML, and Cold Fusion and/or ASP, JSP, and SharePoint web development. Must be knowledgeable in using Oracle Web Center Sites and Drupal 8.0.
  • Skilled in web technologies (tools, system software), current web “usability” best practices, and use of CSS (cascading style sheets).
  • Knowledgeable of new directions in web architecture, language and tools.
  • Web site design and development experience in Unix and Windows NT environments.
  • Ability to design UX experience with creation of detailed annotated wireframes, interactive prototypes, visual design documents, and other detailed deliverables.
  • Ability to create, communicate and enforce the Web Standards of the company’s digital assets, including but not limited to style guides, accessibility standards, and commonly used web UX practices.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s business and strategic direction or the ability to quickly understand the business vision regarding our digital assets.
  • Advanced programming experience with HTML, JavaScript, VBScript, Cold Fusion, ASP, JSP or PHP experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of at least one RDBMS (e.g. SQL, Oracle) is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of the various technical platforms such as Oracel Web Center sites and Drupal, as well as technical knowledge of any new functionality technologies, including but not limited to Web Applications, Marketing and Transactional Emails, SMS, etc.
  • Knowledge of on-line media industry being essential, along with knowledge of off-line media industry being desirable.
  • A strong sense of urgency. A resourcefulness which allows you to get things done in a complex organization.
  • Ability to concurrently work on multiple high priority projects/tasks and initiatives, while ensuring that the various business objectives are strategically managed.
