Job Description:

The Activities Specialist develops a comprehensive recreation program for individuals; this includes planning, organizing. scheduling and implementing activities. This position leads and implements scheduled activities, assures all necessary components of leisure activities are planned and available, including teaching leisure skills such as but not limited to social skills, budgeting, personal safety and sportsmanship skills. This position organizes and meets directly with the IDT pertaining to their caseloads regarding recreation opportunities for individuals. Completes monthly recreation schedules and plans all aspects of the activities: transportation, Trip Tickets, funds, dietary requests. Ensures that all schedules are published and available to individuals and IDT members.

The Activities Specialist participates in the annual Individual Support Plans (ISP) for all individuals on their caseload. This includes completing Recreation assessments, Individual Support Plan reports, attending annual meetings for all individuals on caseload and any updates and follow-up as needed. The Activities Specialist completes Monthly Integrated Reviews (MIR) for all individuals on their caseload; reviewing all recreation attendance and participation data/documentation, summarizing review and entering documentation. Attends MIR meetings and follows up on any actions plans as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

The Activities Specialist directs the work of the activity aides assigned to their caseload. This includes scheduling recreation programs, guiding/teaching recreation techniques, providing oversight of programs implemented by activity aides, and provides in-services as needed.

The Activities Specialist is knowledgeable of the individuals assigned to their caseload. Provide personal care to assist individuals as necessary during leisure activities and overnight trips including grooming/hygiene, basic personal care and dining skills when appropriate. Accurately follow all prescribed therapeutic treatment (Physical Nutritional Management Plans, Behavior Support Plans, etc.) Communicate with co-workers, exchange pertinent information, and maintain a positive working relationship with all staff and clients.

Job Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in art, the behavioral/social sciences, industrial therapy, music, occupational therapy, physical education, recreation, rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, or other closely related fields;

experience at a level comparable to Activities Assistant or above may be substituted in any equivalent combination for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for each thirty-semester hours of education to a maximum of four years;

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to two years of full-time work as an Activities Assistant.

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required Commercial Drivers License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire
