Job Description:

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health is recruiting for an Environmental Health Specialist 1 in Reno in the Environmental Health Section (EHS). This is an underfill position for an Environmental Health Specialist 3.

Under the direct supervision of the EHS Program Manager, this position will provide administrative support to EHS staff such as: maintain paper and electronic records and files; compose and edit correspondence; enter data; manage the front office & reception desk; process daily financial transactions; answer telephones and relay information; duplicate and distribute materials; prepare for meetings and take minutes; order and stock supplies and equipment; receive, sort and deliver mail; review and process a variety of documents according to established guidelines, policies, regulations, and timelines; operate office equipment such as copiers, personal computers, computer terminals, calculators, facsimile machines, printers, and other equipment; assist phone and walk-in clients with the Centralized Licensing, Inspections, and Complaints System (CLICS), including resetting passwords and assisting with applications; process travel requests for EHS staff.

Job Responsibilities:

Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain a certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

∗ Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists is required within 30 days of appointment.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering.

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
  • A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
  • This position is subject to working Nights/Holidays/Weekends.
  • Transcripts of college credits are required.
