Job Description:
Tesla’s Power Electronics group is looking for a skilled and motivated electrical engineer to design and develop Power Electronics converter hardware intended to be used in Tesla power trains and energy products.
Job Responsibilities:
- Start to finish ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and high-volume manufacturing.
- Architecture and modeling of new power converter topologies that achieve better performance.
- Collaborate with mechanical, PCB layout, and firmware engineering teams to successfully to design, validate and manufacture power converters.
- Design and build hardware of power electronics converters for use in automotive and energy storage applications.
Job Requirements:
- Proficiency with basic EE tools (Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators etc.).
- Experience in supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray inductance and capacitance, placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition and EMC optimization.
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
- Strong understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
- Good understanding of switching waveforms, Semi-conductor losses and experience with loss modeling.
- Solid understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion.
- 4 or more years of relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC) design.
- Familiar with schematic capture and power converter circuit simulation tools.
- Good experience with design analog/digital circuits and micro-processors.
- Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit design.
Qualification & Experience:
- Knowledge of basic control theory and experience with embedded programming.
- MSEE or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge in environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for Automotive, Industrial & Residential applications.
- Awareness of UL and CE electrical safety requirements and EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters.
