Job Description:
The Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office is a confidential place for those what have been impacted by sexualized or gender-based violence, harassment or harm. Our response services include both individual and group support and advocacy. SVPRO also have a multi-faceted educational program (i.e, outreach, event planning, panel participation, presentation, Q&A sessions, workshops or training and consultation) which strives toward individual change of beliefs, values, behaviours and greater social and systemic change.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and ongoing support for survivors of sexualized violence.
- Provides advice, consultation, and accompaniment to local hospital, police, court and other community resources including the Connect Counselling, Elizabeth Fry Society of the Okanagan, WAVAW and BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexualized Abuse, and others.
- Develops and implements strategies, processes, plans, and programs that promote evidence-based approaches to sexualized violence response and prevention education.
- Identifies, accesses, and coordinates appropriate academic and non-academic accommodations for survivors of sexualized violence.
- Provides advice, consultation, and accompaniment to campus resources including UBC Health and Wellness, Disability Resource Centre, Ombudsperson, and UBC Employee and Family Assistance Program.
- Develop support group curriculum and facilitate weekly support groups for students (trauma support group; healthy relationships).
- Provides education and training related to new issues arising in the field of sexualized violence response and prevention to individuals, units, and departments involved in responding to disclosures of sexualized violence.
- Consults and collaborates with key campus and community stakeholders to increase safety and coordinate supports including academic concessions and non-academic accommodations.
- Coordinates educational programs, projects, and special events related to sexualized violence prevention.
- Designs and delivers training curriculum and materials about sexualized violence and related issues, utilizing multiple online and offline channels tailored to the needs of specific audiences including UBC faculty, staff, and students.
- Facilitates and participates in case management meetings. Provide additional advice and guidance to the university staff, advisors, and/or faculty involved in the case as required.
- Implements and monitors social media strategies
- Provides direction on the interpretation and application of relevant policies and procedures including UBC Policy SC17, Sexual Misconduct and Sexualized Violence, Policy SC7, Discrimination, and Policy SC13, Response to At-Risk Behaviour and the Respectful Environment Statement.
- Partners with key campus and community stakeholders to develop and implement referral and intervention protocols that; i. expedite access to support and accommodations, ii. facilitate the continuity and coordination of care and, iii. address systemic barriers in order to increase safety and support.
- Assists with developing and implementing a campus-wide sexualized violence prevention education strategy that promotes a culture of consent by addressing attitudes and behaviours that support rape culture to create an inclusive environment for diverse populations of UBC faculty, staff and students.
- Plays a central role in the operation of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, providing crisis intervention, support, and case management for members of the UBC Community who have experienced sexualized violence, or those who are supporting survivors of sexualized assault.
- Recruits, trains, and supports faculty, staff, and students to provide peer-led prevention education and training.
Job Requirements:
- Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to take direction, lead others and to function as an effective team member.
- Group facilitation knowledge, skills and experience is an asset.
- Excellent working knowledge of, and experience supporting survivors of sexualized violence using feminist, trauma-informed and harm reduction models of practice.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated cultural competencies and intercultural communication skills to support work with a diverse community.
- Ability to plan ahead, direct the work of others, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation, protocols and best practices.
- Ability to manage projects and multi task while paying attention to details.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goal.
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience working with diverse or marginalized populations recognizing the diversity of survivor experience due to sexualized identity, gender identity, gender expression, radicalization, age, family status, religion, faith, ability, disability, national or ethnic origin, Indigeneity, immigration status, socioeconomic status, class and language.
