Job Description:
This position is responsible for developing, managing, directing and providing long and short-term vision and goals to all operational areas of Food Services, including all residence dining, retail and catering operations on the Okanagan campus. This position is responsible for a complex range for operations generating revenue in excess of $15 million per year from 10 on-campus dining locations, with opportunities for future growth.
Job Responsibilities:
- Negotiates pricing, multi-unit contracts, and service levels with suppliers. Preparing quotation documents to forward to suppliers for bids.
- Preparing legal contracts and purchase orders following selection of supplier and approves and oversees the purchase of any large expenditure items.
- Responsible for managing the customer service standards set by UBC Food Services Okanagan.
- Represents the department in high profile functions, conferences and other events.
- Analyzes financial reports, determines Meal Plan pricing rates, and approves all budgets and selling prices. Is accountable for the financial integrity of the department.
- Recruits, motivates, coaches, supervises, evaluates, disciplines and terminates staff as required. Ensures compliance with UBC and SHCS HR standards and procedures.
- Meets with students and campus stakeholders to ensure Food Services is meeting the current needs of the campus.
- In consultation with the Director, Business Operations, develops and implements long range goals and business plans for the Food Services portfolio
- Manages hours of operation for units under their control to effectively meet marketplace service expectations while ensuring financial sustainability is achieved.
- Responsible for strategic planning and direction for the Food Services portfolio.
- Reviews operations and implements operational changes to meet targets and improve efficiencies on an ongoing basis. Includes assessing the financial risks of plans and organizational changes involved in future projects.
- Develops and maintains relationships with campus community to facilitate regular, open dialogue and communication.
- Working with food services managers, plant operations managers, consultants, franchisers, designers and construction contractors to plan new facilities or renovate current food services locations. Ensuring all projects are in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Plans, develops and implements new organizational policies and procedures to improve product and service quality. Provides clarity and direction on policies and procedures to managers and staff.
- Maintaining a forum for student feedback through means of chairing a residence food committee with student participants. Providing support and working directly with student groups as required.
- Develops and assigns goals and objectives for managers, supervisors and staff to advance the departmental vision and business plan.
Job Requirements:

University degree in business administration, commerce or hotel administration preferred.

A minimum of 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with a large commercial food service operation, preferably in a University or College environment.

Demonstrated experience in food production, administration, staff scheduling, and staff management in a unionized environment.

Multi-unit management experience preferred.

The ability to coordinate, train, and motivate a diverse staff, and work with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Effective oral and written communication, leadership, interpersonal and time management skills.

Computer skills are required.

Ability to work flexible hours and days of the week.
