CA Fish and Wildlife Jobs – ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

Website California Department of Fish and Wildlife

Job Description:

We are now hiring for the Instream Flow Program, which develops flows that will protect fish and wildlife across the state of California. In this position, you will help collect and manage field data, perform data analysis, generate graphics, write technical reports, and give presentations on instream flow studies.
Most projects build on intensive field data collection efforts. Projects are conducted as a team effort, and require close collaboration with other Environmental Scientists, Senior Environmental Scientists, and the Senior Hydraulic Engineer in the program, as well as coordination with other state agencies and CDFW regional offices. Field data collection typically includes assessment of stream habitat types, detailed topographic surveys of stream channels, and discharge measurements. Given the variety of streams in the state and the complexity of the data analysis and technical reports, strong problem-solving and organizational skills and a positive attitude towards teamwork are essential.

Job Responsibilities:

Must be able to conduct office work involving use of a computer keyboard for several hours a day, usually sitting, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Must attend meetings and work with staff throughout the State, including some travel. Must be able to assist with fieldwork involving walking to and through streams in waders, carrying heavy equipment to water diversion and related stream sites, overnight travel, and working extended hours.

Job Requirements:

The following items are required to be submitted with your application. Applicants who do not submit the required items timely may not be considered for this job:

Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov.
