Job Description:
The San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (San Diego Water Board) has two openings for Engineering Geologists in the Site Restoration and Waste Management Program Unit. The positions are located at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, CA 92108.
Under close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region (San Diego Water Board) Strategic Plan and Practical Vision, the incumbents will perform the full range of professional water quality engineering geologic work related to the San Diego Water Board’s Land Disposal and Composting Programs. Specific job duties and responsibilities include the development and enforcement of waste discharge requirements, review of technical reports, evaluation of water quality data, and site inspections.
Job Responsibilities:
These positions require the application of geologic methods and principles in performing activities related to the identification, research, development, review, and interpretation of permit and regulatory requirements and other documents. In addition the incumbents will review and evaluate water quality data, hydrologic data, and other project information with emphasis on the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of water management and monitoring systems and waste management unit containment systems for land disposal and composting operations; investigate the sources and movement of contaminants in surface water and groundwater; ensure consistency with relevant water quality plans and policies, established hydrological and geologic standards, and applicable laws and regulations; work collaboratively with other staff and the regulated community; prepare written documents for consideration by the San Diego Water Board; represent the San Diego Regional Board before other Boards, agencies, and groups; and provide presentations before the San Diego Regional Board and other organizations concerning Board activities.
