Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Track or Bridges & Structures, our Rail Corridor – Bridges & Structures Office is looking for a Bridges and Structures Specialist to plan and monitor all railway corridor related engineering track or bridges and structural rehabilitation services, including inspections, to provide safe and reliable contract railway operations, and update Metrolinx Bridge Standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise to contract development involving railway corridor inspection, maintenance, and upgrades with major rail corridor asset management providers and consultants, and develop capital rehabilitation programs for GO owned corridors.
  • Administer programmed maintenance and capital plant renewal programs for track and railway structures.
  • Establish the priority, inspection frequency, condition audit reporting mechanism, program maintenance and plant renewal implementation, within regulatory guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of a rail fleet management strategy.
  • Ensure full consultant and contractor compliance with all Bridges and Structures Standards and with agreement terms and conditions governing the delivery of railway corridor engineering services.
  • Collaborate with regulatory entities to ensure full compliance with prevailing safety regulatory policy, best practices, and new issues.
  • Ensure compliance of third-party regulatory inspections and associated maintenance or rehabilitation to rail carrying structures, bridges and culverts.
  • Collaborate with Engineering department for research, development and maintenance of mainline and yard commuter service track design standards.
  • Ensure that appropriate management control systems are developed and practiced.
  • Maintain allocated expenses for contracted rail corridor asset management, including accountability for budget deviations.
  • Provide input to the budget process for railway corridor asset management.
  • Monitor the performance of the host railway carriers to track slow orders, program maintenance and plant renewal against Operating Agreement requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings, establishes agenda, and accommodates team schedules.

Job Requirements:

  • Completion of a degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience planning and monitoring railway corridor engineering track and structural rehabilitation services.
  • Must possess a current and valid Ontario DZ driver’s licence that meets the corporate standard for a good driving record, as well successfully complete training/certification in: Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), Confined spaces, Fall protection, including two-person rescue
