Job Description:
The Sciences and Exploration Directorate at Goddard Space Flight Center is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Research AST, Earth Sciences Remote Sensing in the Earth Science Division. This position involves Earth science studies (biosphere, atmospheric, oceanic, geologic processes and their interactions) through the analysis, interpretation, and application of data obtained from instruments from space complimented by airborne, ground-based, and laboratory measurements.
Job Responsibilities:
Job Requirements:
In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Vacant research positions may be filled at one of several grade levels depending upon the scientific impact of the person selected. A review may be required to determine the appropriate grade level of the position and supplemental materials may be required from the selectee. Please keep this in mind when indicating the lowest grade you will accept. If selected at the lower grade level, the scientific impact of the incumbent will be examined in addition to other factors, to determine if the person is eligible for promotion. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, performing research to understand the physics and dynamics of atmospheric processes through the use of satellite, aircraft, and surface-based remote sensing observations and computer-based simulation; assisting in the development of advanced remote sensing instrumentation (primarily radar) and techniques; assisting in the development of numerical atmospheric models and associated microphysical parameterizations; and presentation, publication, and proposal development. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, overseeing research designed to understand the physics and dynamics of atmospheric processes through the use of satellite, aircraft, and surface-based remote sensing observations and computer-based simulation; developing advanced remote sensing instrumentation (primarily radar) and techniques; developing numerical atmospheric models and associated microphysical parameterizations; conducting special studies involving the application of aerospace technology supporting the observation of the Earth’s surfaces and systems; and presentation, publication, and proposal development.
