State of VA Jobs – Sustainability Data Coordinator

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide internal and external data owners with specific requests for reporting timeframes, metrics, and methodologies
• Collect, interpret, and validate sustainability data points, working with data owners to ensure alignment
• Data management: Maintain sustainability metrics and ensure data is used consistently across reporting frameworks and other published sources
• Analysis: Provide data coordination and analysis for sustainability studies and communicate findings with internal and external partners; use data, including financial, environmental, human resources, and socio-economic data, to create meaningful statistics and track progress toward VCU sustainability goals
• Develop and coordinate the production and use of reliable environmental, social, and governance data for internal and external university reports
• University sustainability reporting: Manage reporting process and timelines for successful report submissions, corrections, and publication; coordinate proofing and documentation processes with internal and external teams
• Provide project direction and support to student interns within the Office of Sustainability
• Evaluate emerging technologies, incentive programs, state and local regulations and understand implications for sustainability initiatives at VCU
• Research sustainability trends in higher education and other sectors, conduct research and benchmarking against peer institutions and provide analysis and recommendation on VCU sustainability methodologies

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting protocols and other sustainability reporting standards
• Basic to intermediate skills in creative programs suites (Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva)
• Experience in data collection, working with various data sources and software tools to aggregate information
• Experience with energy and/or environmental data analysis and reporting
• Ability to communicate data analysis methodology and data trends to decision makers and other key stakeholders
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and/or google spreadsheets
• Experience building data visualizations
• Strong organizational and documentation skills with phenomenal attention to detail
• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Energy/Environmental Management, Data/Computer Science, Environmental Engineering/Science, or other analytics degree
• Experience with sustainability practices in Higher Education
