Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs inspections of excavations, structures, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation system installations of capital improvement construction projects and integrates special project work with regular work schedules, monitors operational details, and performs construction contract administration and project record keeping work in conformance with applicable standards, legal and technical requirements and policies.
Inspects and observes testing of multiple public and private water and wastewater pipelines and facilities throughout the construction process including repairs performed by other agencies and on behalf of the district. Performs civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation inspections on capital improvement and repair construction projects to underground installations, pump stations, treatment plants and facilities. Insures and enforces compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations and codes of materials and methods and coordinates interaction of customers, contractors, consultants, staff and other agencies during construction.

Job Responsibilities:

Assists supervisor research and prepare information for budget requests and special projects. Participates in the general housekeeping and administrative record keeping operations of the department. Assists collections and construction personnel in assigned work and projects. Assumes responsibility for covering a part of the work assignments of other collections and construction workers during short absences. Participates in teams engaged with process and customer service improvements, cross-training, and team evaluations. Prepares and presents formal reports and recommendations as appropriate. Participates in District committees. Performs other assigned work consistent with the responsibilities of the classification and necessary to effective department and District operations.

Participates in evaluating capital improvement project construction needs. Assists in reviewing plans and details of criteria for project design, specifications, constructibility and constraints. Advises on compliance with federal, state, regional and local ordinances, regulations, laws and codes as they apply to district construction projects. Assists in negotiation of construction contracts.

Job Requirements:

A combination of training and experience which demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed). A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented with at least two years of college level courses in construction, engineering, mathematics, project management and administration.
Five (5) years of full time paid work experience in inspection of public works water or wastewater systems construction projects involving mechanical, structural and/or electrical work. This five year experience may be met if at least two (2) years of such experience was gained while employed as a DDSD employee.
