Job Description:

Patient care is at the core of everything we do. Reporting to the Senior Provincial Director/Chief Paramedic, EMS and a member of the Senior EMS Leadership Team, this position is accountable for the development, implementation, and evaluation of overall strategic and operational plans to support patient-focused care programs and delivery. Along with Zone and Provincial Leadership Teams, the Executive Director/Deputy Chief, EMS develops specific goals, deliverables and plans for Zone logistics, facility planning, specific projects and operations. Collaboratively, the team creates a standard of care and service delivery that serve to enhance and promote quality patient care. This position establishes priorities for the business plan and develops strategies that reflect the operational needs of the organization. As the provincial key EMS contact for both internal and external senior leaders including AHS Zone and Sector Clinical Leaders, Municipal, Provincial Government, Unions and Community Groups, you utilize your advanced relationship-building skills through effective communication. You work collaboratively with provincially- focused programs to operationalize key strategies including Emergency Planning and Preparedness. Through years of senior leadership experience with Health Care or Public Safety, the incumbent influences the direction of operations and service delivery for operations to meet the needs of all Albertans. This role requires skills and experience in Change Leadership, Operational Leadership, People Management, Resource Management, and Risk Management. You set the framework for program and service delivery and coordination, ensuring program delivery measurements and standards are enforced. You are committed to continually improving health and safety performance in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of patient care.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Health or Business Studies is required. Candidate must also have minimum of ten (10) years’ leadership experience with Health Care or Public Safety, as well as a minimum of 5 years in Senior Leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
  • The successful candidate demonstrates a clear pattern of professional and personal development and progressive senior leadership experience in an emergency services environment, including five (5) years’ experience in a senior leadership/management role. This role requires practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management. The successful individual has knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, modeling concepts, and program and project management theories, principles and practices. An effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services, the incumbent also possesses leadership skills, including comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Using strategic thinking, the successful individual in this leadership position displays an ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues, as well as the ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues. With a proven ability to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and in managing within a unionized sector, you foster a climate of cooperation and build solid partnerships. Equivalencies of education and experience with be considered.
  • Graduate Degree in Health, Business or Leadership is preferred. It is also preferred that the ideal candidate will be eligible for registration with ACP (Alberta College of Paramedics).
