Job Description:

The Senior Manager, Database Platforms is a technical manager who is responsible for the development and execution of technical goals and strategies within Information Technology for the company’s Database Platforms and tools. The Senior Manager Database Platforms will also focus on driving innovation for emerging database technologies – help shape the future of the next generation platform for database services. This role works closely with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Delivery, Governance, and IT leadership teams to provide operational direction, implementation, and support for IT solutions related to database platforms and tools. He/she will be accountable for driving operational excellence in the overall maintenance of our database platforms and tools, develop database standards, ensure availability, resilience, performance, security, and regulatory compliance. The Senior Manager, Database Platforms will report on project progress and operational metrics to executives and various stakeholders at the enterprise level.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop project and funding proposals for programs that provide continuous delivery of cost-effective Database Platform and Application administration solutions that meet business requirements.
• Lead recruitment efforts to attract, retain high quality and diverse talent
• Define, optimize, and implement procedures and policies, as well as organizational activities and initiatives
• Define roadmaps and use cases directly with business and technology leaders to modernize our database platforms (IBMi, MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL); NoSQL (Couchbase), Ne04j including big data management and capability stack which include data movement, high availability, disaster recovery, security, compliance, analytics, and artificial intelligence.
• Lead a highly technical team responsible for ensuring the integrity, availability and security of multiple database platforms, data integration tools and cloud infrastructure disciplines, requiring specialized administration support.

• Develop and track staffing plans and ensures the team is adequately staffed with skilled professionals.
• Collaborate with senior management and other peers for strategy development and execution planning
• Lead the Database Platform and Application Administration team for delivering, installing, and providing 24/7 global operational support, reliability, performance and continuous improvement for database platform and application administration.
• Lead our journey to the cloud and as a service model for database platforms where possible
• Manage labor and non-labor budgets of $4M USD or more
• Develop business case and cost/benefit analysis for Database Platform & Applications Administration capital requests, support operations spending and initiatives.
• Responsible for defining optimization opportunities to manage expenses
• Solid understanding of IT estimation activities. May lead large/complex estimation activities

Job Requirements:

• Subject matter expertise with database high availability solutions such as cluster, replication, standby
• Accepts accountability and manages execution of individual and team results at corporate and divisional level
• Technical experience and subject matter expert with various Database Platforms, emerging database platforms, packaged Enterprise Resource Planning systems, operating systems, storage options, networking, and security. Familiar with tools to manage these various environments.
• Strong knowledge of project management principles and disciplines; highly proficient in a few areas including governance, financial and benefits realization, business case development etc.
• Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong leadership skills; proven experience in leading and developing technical professionals and influencing leaders
• Strong background in sourcing, implementing, and managing Managed Services, vendor relationships and contracts.
• Experience with Agile/Dev Ops methodologies and tools
• Experience with any Cloud (AWS, Azure, Oracle) database platform offerings and solutions
• Effective verbal, presentation, written and listening communications skills
• Capable of making independent decisions that impact IT and/or business strategy
• Remain current with industry best practices, trends, innovation, and emerging technologies in database platforms and tools in the marketplace
• Build a high-performant on-shore/off-shore database delivery team to ensure 24/7 database coverage.

Qualification & Experience:

• A minimum of 10 years relevant Database Platform experience or in a related area
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems, or equivalent experience 

   

• Demonstrates extensive knowledge and capabilities across a variety of database platforms and tools
