Job Description:

Provide Security so that all assigned offenders are in their assigned place at the recorded time, and to ensure that the tranquility and good order of the institution is maintained. Includes enforcing all rules defined in the IDOC/ICIW Policy and Procedures Manual and Offender handbook.

Performing head counts, ensuring accuracy.

Provide supervision of assigned offenders so that individual needs are met and cleanliness and good order of the living unit is maintained. Included processing offender mail and personal property.

Maintaining absolute control of keys and all other institutional, personal equipment and possessions at all times.

Supervise offenders in segregation status according to policy.

Evaluate behavior of offenders and use the disciplinary process as appropriate.

Role model appropriate behavior and utilize EBP principals to assist in a successful reentry for offenders.

Evaluate general movement/activities/interaction of all offenders so that appropriate staff may be aware of individual/unit needs and proper future treatment/programing needs.

Job Responsibilities:

Includes observing offenders behavior and recording all significant situations.

Determine needs and contact appropriate staff as necessary.

Document pertinent information regarding operations and offender behavior in the Department of Corrections Electronic web base.

Record/report all information as required by established policies to maintain the order of the unit/institution and to meet individual needs.

All records of the unit/institution, but not limited to those in specified, will be promptly and correctly maintained as outlined by unit/institution policy.

All information necessary will be reported (oral/written) to the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.

  • Psychological tests
  • A background investigation check.
  • A post-offer health screen administered by an institutional physician.
  • A urinalysis screen for drugs.
  • All new employee training during the probationary period, including local orientation, new employee orientation, and emergency preparedness training.
  • Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
